Random Number 1–10
A number from 1 to 10, drawn evenly — every value has exactly a 1-in-10 chance, guaranteed by rejection sampling rather than assumed. The range is preset; adjust anything and it becomes the full generator.
Where 1–10 draws get used
Ten is the classroom and games range: picking which student answers next, assigning a "rate it out of ten", ordering a playlist, deciding who goes first in a group of ten or fewer, or rolling a quick d10 without dice on hand. For tabletop-style dice (including a proper d10 with modifiers and history), use the dice roller. For names instead of numbers, the name picker draws winners from a list directly.
Small ranges are where sloppy generators show their bias most clearly in percentage terms, so this page runs the same engine as everything else on RandomNum: one random byte per draw, values 250–255 rejected, leaving exactly 25 complete sets of 1–10 per byte.
FAQ
- Is each number really equally likely?
- Yes. 250 of the 256 byte values are accepted, and 250 divides into 25 identical sets of ten — so each number from 1 to 10 has exactly 25 ways to come up.
- Can I draw several different numbers at once?
- Set "How many" above 1 and tick "No duplicates" — handy for picking, say, three distinct numbers for a podium finish.
